Traditional tools ask 'What jobs are you qualified for?' Proximo asks:
As military veterans, we experienced the collapse of entire professional identities: not just the loss of a job, but the disintegration of a way of life, a language, and a structure for meaning. Reinvention wasn't optional; it was survival. And there was no roadmap.
That experience taught us something critical: when industries vanish or roles are erased, the real challenge isn't job search – it's identity translation. It's the terrifying work of answering: Who am I now? What am I still capable of? How do I begin again?
This is exactly the challenge millions of people will face as AI transforms the economy. Entire sectors will evaporate or morph beyond recognition. Workers who spent decades honing their craft will wake up to find the world no longer needs what they once offered. The emotional and strategic demands of navigating that loss – and rebuilding with clarity – are profound.

Raised by blue collar parents who fought to pull their family into the middle class, Dan joined the military for reasons of class mobility as much as his motivation to serve. After graduating from West Point, Dan served as an infantry officer in the U.S. Army, leading more than 300 combat missions in Iraq. Returning home, he faced the profound loss of a professional identity and life structure that had defined his adult life.
Dan’s journey through disorientation and reinvention led him to earn a Master’s in Public Policy from Harvard and dedicate his career to building systems for others facing major life transitions. Dan went on to lead national career initiatives at Syracuse University ’s Institute for Veterans and Military Families, LinkedIn, and Shift.org, building career transition programs that served over 150,000 veterans, military spouses, and career switchers.
He is a Presidential Leadership Scholar, certified executive coach, and alum of Stanford’s Ignite program for innovation and entrepreneurship. His extensive experience navigating his own transitions and coaching others through theirs led him to architect the coaching methodology that underpins Proximo.
